Plastic Optic fiber

WHAT IS POF?
Plastic Optic Fiber (POF) typically uses PMMA (Poly Methyl Methacrylate) a general-purpose resin as the core material and fluorinated polymer for the clad material. In large diameter fibers 98% of the cross -section is the core that allows the transmission of light.

TYPES OF POF
  • SI-POF (Step Index Plastic Optical Fiber)

Characteristics: SI-POF has a large modal dispersion and refractive index steps up as we movefrom the cladding to the core of the fiber.

Applications: Light Guide, Decoration, Signage, Textile, etc.

  • GI-POF(Graded Index Plastic Optical Fiber)

Characteristics: GI-POF has a small modal dispersion & refractive index of the core gradually decreases farther from the center of the core.

Applications: Short distance network (Intranet), Large data transmission cable, etc.
